To both the initial post really and the reply.

From all the wars I've seen so far, if there is one thing I learned about large capital losses, its this:
- The number of capitals is just about ALWAYS easy to replace, with the exception perhaps of alliances who overreached or after many many months of fighting.
- The only thing that can be 'destroyed' really in such a fight is the will to deploy them.

The dreadlosses ASCN took in the fight against BoB were all-in-all pretty insignificant. But it eventually broke the will of ASCN pilots to deploy their dreads, which is as good as destroying them really in terms of their impact on the war.
What will happen after this fight is unclear. Yes, BoB killed a lot of dreads. On the other hand, they lost a good number as well. As long as RAGOON+AAA don't let themselves get discouraged by this, there is no problem sending another equally big or even bigger dreadfleet into the fight next time. If they have been discouraged, the ability (which they undoubtedly have) to replace the physical losses means very little.

Which is exactly why DS1 joining the goons makes no real difference. They shat themselves when they were asked to bring out the dreads then and as you know history is doomed to repeat itself.

If DS1 has more faith in their current alliance and friends (notably RA and AAA), their willingness to deploy dreads can very well increase. I've no doubt that flying into battle with the likes of AAA and RA will boost anyone's confidence in a good outcome [)

Sorry DB, one look at the corm killboard shows that Chucky lost a dread in 9-9 at the same time give or take that everyone else lost dreads.
